Hello, I’m Juliet — the designer and maker behind Ruby Red Designs.
Born in Cape Town and now based in Johannesburg, I’ve always been drawn to creativity, colour and making things by hand. With a background in advertising and film production, creativity has been a constant thread throughout my life, and for more than 15 years I’ve designed and made everything from clothing and bags to jewellery and accessories.
Jewellery, however, has always had my heart.
Ruby Red Designs grew from my love of creating pieces that feel a little different — jewellery with personality that can transform an outfit and make you feel fabulous wearing it. My collections bring together a mix of materials, from stainless steel and hand-painted elements to gemstones, pearls and beautiful beads, creating everything from easy everyday pieces to bold statement jewellery.
I’ve also had the opportunity to collaborate with local South African brands, including me&b, creating earrings and accessories for their collections. One of the more unusual projects was a daisy chainmail vest top — a wonderfully creative challenge that allowed me to explore something completely different.
Today, every Ruby Red Designs piece is thoughtfully designed, made or curated from my home studio in Johannesburg. I’m inspired by colour, texture, nature, art and the endless possibilities that come from combining unexpected materials.
Ruby Red Designs is jewellery for women who want to express their own style — whether that means simple and understated, layered and eclectic, or unapologetically bold.
